Through the generous support of Future Shop, 40 Boys and Girls Clubs youth from across Canada will have the opportunity to pursue their higher education goals as recipients of Future Shop’s Future Generation Scholarships.

Over the next two weeks, the 40 deserving recipients will be recognized during special presentations at Future Shop stores, where they will receive the first component of the $5,000 scholarship - a $750 Future Shop gift card to purchase a laptop. They were selected based on their outstanding contribution to their Boys and Girls Club and local community, good academic standing and financial need.

This year’s recipients include 18 youth from Ontario, five from British Columbia, four each from New Brunswick and Newfoundland, three from Manitoba, two each from Alberta and Nova Scotia and one each from Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Together with Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC), Future Shop has been supporting the post-secondary dreams of Boys and Girls Club youth for over 10 years through the provision of much needed scholarships through Future Shop’s Future Leaders scholarship program. Seen as an evolution to this program, the Future Generation program aims to provide young people in Grade 10 with the financial resources they need to achieve their long term education goals.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the generous scholarship that Future Shop has awarded me with,” says John, a scholarship recipient and member of a Boys and Girls Club in Ontario. “This scholarship will help me to make my education a centre point without financial instability and will encourage me to focus on my goals to better myself for the real world.”

Future Shop’s Future Generation program promises students in Grade 10 a scholarship for their post-secondary education at a critical time when it may still be possible to influence their decision about whether or not to continue their studies past high school. Research indicates that while many students lack the financial resources to attend post-secondary education, many also lack accurate information about the costs, especially for tuition. By awarding these scholarships in Grade 10, successful applicants may realize earlier on that pursuing post-secondary education can still be a realistic option.

“Future Shop is committed to investing in creating positive opportunities for young people so they can realize their dreams of post-secondary education,” said Andrea Farnell, Community Relations Manager, Future Shop. “We are proud to partner with Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to help open doors for young Canadians so they can create their own infinite possibilities. Our Future Generation program continues our tradition of providing much needed scholarships to deserving youth.”
