Las Vegas, Nevada (January 8, 2013) — The LVH – Las Vegas Hotel & Casino is excited to announce the first-ever female champion of its annual ultimate pro football handicapping contest, the SuperContest.

“Al Sr.,” who opted to keep her real name and face anonymous, is an avid football fan and went 5-0 on the last regular season Sunday to capture the title and grand prize of $447,000. Her final pick was the Redskins after changing her mind at the last second from her original pick, the Cowboys. In the end, her pick prevailed as the Redskins beat the Cowboys 28-18. Although “Al Sr.” follows college football more than the NFL, after watching her husband participate for years she decided it was her turn to get into the action. Each contestant selects an alias for the SuperContest and she chose “Al Sr.” after her husband.

The SuperContest is the ultimate pro football handicapping contest in the world’s largest race & sports book, the SuperBook®. Contestants can win their share of the prize pool by paying a $1,500 entry fee prior to the start of the regular professional football season and then picking five games each week against the point spread throughout the 17-week regular season. The prize structure is based on the number of entrants and is structured so that contestants receive 100% of the prize money paid in.

This year, a record-breaking 745 contestants participated. The top 20 contestants were awarded the 100% payback prizes. The top three finishers and their records are as follows:

  1. 1. Al Sr. (56-26-3) – $447,000
  2. 2. Jay Stones (56-27-2) - $178,800
  3. 3. Heisenberg (55-29-1) - $89,400

The LVH chips in a $10,000 bonus for the mini-contest, which is the best record over the last 3 weeks of the season. This year an unprecedented 19 contestants tied for the mini contest prize. Each will be awarded $526.32.

In addition, the LVH also adds a $10,000 aggregate bonus for any contestant selecting over 67% winners. The top two finishers, Al Sr. (68.29%) and Jay Stones (67.47%), finished above 67% and both will receive an additional $5,000.

Fans and handicappers alike can look forward to the 2nd Annual SuperContest Weekend in late August. This special event includes a golf tournament and handicapping seminar, as well as a reception and prize giveaways. 2013 will also mark the 25th year that the property will offer the SuperContest. The SuperBook will begin to take entries this summer. Details can be found in the SuperBook and on thelvh.com as the event gets closer.
