IML Worldwide, the global leader in harnessing audience insight, took centre stage at the recent MEA (Meetings and Events Australia) 2012 Conference in Australia, when it helped client Song Division recruit all 600 members of the audience to help pen the lyrics to a new song. The song was then performed live by professional musicians and what’s more, the whole songwriting and performing process was completed within one hour!

The seemingly unachievable task of getting 600 strangers and a band of professional musicians to cooperate together on a single song was enabled by the use of the award-winning IML Connector. The IML Connector is a unique hand held audience engagement and messaging device that was supplied to each member of the MEA audience. With the use of the IML Connectors the audience were able to instantaneously vote on the style of song they wished to create (Rock, Country, Ballad etc) and thereafter send words, lines and thoughts on lyrics to the musicians (displayed instantly on a huge screen for everyone to see). The musicians were then able to sift through the suggestions and utilise these to create a completely new song, which they then performed on the stage in front of the songwriting audience.

“We couldn’t have done it without the amazing IML Connectors,” said Andy Sharp, founder of Song Division, a leading music-based team building company.

According to Pete Eyre MD IML Australia, “This incredible achievement demonstrates the collaborative power of an audience and the content and insight that they can create. And because the IML Connector is so easy to use even people totally unfamiliar with the device are able to provide feedback and communicate in an instant. Its use at meetings and conferences completely opens up the interactive possibilities for event owners both in terms of providing entertainment as in this case, or providing a wealth of really valuable commercial feedback. Ultimately it is about helping to maximize the ROI for the event.”
