Bravida increases Umeå’s grid capacity with SEK 24 million order
Bravida Sweden has signed a contract with Umeå Energi to upgrade a substation in Umeå, thereby contributing to increased electrification in the region. The assignment is being carried out as a design-and-build contract.
Bravida is the general contractor and the project involves electrical installation work.
“This is a project that helps ensure a robust and resilient electricity grid and further strengthens Bravida's position as a partner for all aspects of electrification,” says Lars Täuber, Head of Division Sweden at Bravida.
The upgrade is part of Umeå Energi's long-term strategy to strengthen the electricity grid in order to accommodate the energy transition in society, thereby catering for growing needs among more electricity-intensive customers.
“Umeå is growing and electrification is increasing rapidly. This project will improve the capacity of the electricity grid around Backen and Västerslätt, allowing more companies to develop and more transport infrastructure to be electrified in the area,” says Jan Eriksson, CEO of Umeå Energi Elnät.
Work on the Backen 10 kV substation in Umeå started in March 2026 and is scheduled for completion in November 2027.
