Washington, DC, June 2, 2011 – World Bank President Robert Zoellick, U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Rajiv Shah, New York Times journalist Mark Bittman, U.S. Under Secretary of State Maria Otero, and Rev. Gabriel Salguero of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition are among the powerful speakers who will address Bread for the World’s National Gathering 2011 in Washington, DC, June 11-14, 2011.
“We are thrilled to have world-renowned preachers, high-level government officials, members of Congress, development and nutrition experts, and journalists in our midst at National Gathering 2011,” said Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World.
Under the theme “Changing the Politics of Hunger,” the event will feature inspiring plenary sessions, workshops, and worship services. Plenary sessions include “God Calls Us to Speak,” with Rev. Frank Thomas; “Building Momentum for Change,” with 2010 World Food Prize laureate David Beckmann; “How’s the Exodus Going?” with Patrick Fine of the Millennium Challenge Corporation; and “A Change Agenda for Effective Foreign Assistance,” with Ched Myers of Bartimaeus Cooperative Ministries. Rajiv Shah will address participants Sunday, June 12.
“These impressive speakers will play a vital role in equipping Christians for advocacy at this year’s event—especially as Congress considers budget decisions that could drastically impact hungry and poor people,” said Beckmann.
On Monday, June 13, Bread for the World and Ireland’s Concern Worldwide will host an international meeting with high-level government officials, leaders of civil society organizations, and representatives from developing countries to build political support for global efforts to improve nutrition among mothers and children.
