Fort Lauderdale — August 30, 2011 — Andrew Y. Winston, Esq., Managing Partner of Lawlor, Winston, White & Murphey, a Fort Lauderdale Personal Injury Trial Law Firm, has completed his second “three-year term” on a Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Attorney Winston first served as Chair of GC 17D, from 2003-2005. More recently, he chaired “GC 17A” from 2008-2011. Florida Bar Grievance Committees are comprised of both lawyers and non-lawyers charged with the responsibility of investigating and evaluating “attorney” complaints in much the same way a grand jury decides whether a case has met its requisite “standard” or “burden of proof” for further proceedings. There are 20 judicial circuits in Florida and each is responsible for at least one such committee. More specifically, after a case is submitted by Florida bar counsel, Andrew Y. Winston and his committee must decide whether:
(1) “probable cause exists to believe a lawyer violated the rules of professional conduct imposed by the Supreme Court of Florida and
(2) whether discipline against the lawyer appears warranted.
