Ragabond member Adam George-Wood, from Nottingham, and Paul Mills, from Kent, collected in Bedford city centre on behalf of the charity with a permit granted to Lauren Baskett, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Community Devlopment Manager. Adam, who has done 16 collectiosn for Campaign and raised almost £11,000 said: “I started collecting for breast cancer research because I realised that, with all the women I know, it was bound to affect some of them in the future and I wanted to try and help. I chose Campaign because the fundraising team are friendly and supportive, I believe in the charity's aims of research and prevention, and because the charity appears to spend its money quite efficiently.” He added: “Collecting for Campaign is an interesting and rewarding experience. On the one hand, it is enjoyable that the general public is usually generous and good humoured towards the cause. On the other hand, the stories people tell me about their experiences with breast cancer can be either uplifting or heartbreaking, but always really make me appreciate how important it is to keep fundraising and researching to get rid of this horrible disease.” Lauren Baskett said: “Breast Cancer Campaign is delighted with the amount of money Adam and Paul have successfully raised. Their support and hard work is invaluable to us and will help us get a step closer to beating breast cancer by funding vital research.” Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and will affect one woman in nine during her lifetime in the UK. Every year around 46,000 people are diagnosed with this disease in the UK. Breast Cancer Campaign’s mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.
