Press Release For immediate release: 7 March 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Best-selling author’s marathon effort to fund breast cancer research Children’s fiction writer Patrick Ness from Bromley, Kent has laced up his running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The best-selling novelist, who wrote the multi-award-winning Chaos Walking trilogy, will join thousands of runners for the 26.2mile race on Sunday 17 April in memory of fellow children’s author Siobhan Dowd who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2007. Before her death, Siobhan had begun work on a new novel, which her publishers asked Patrick to complete. The book, A Monster Calls, by Siobhan Dowd and Patrick Ness will be published on Monday 2 May 2011 by Walker Books. Patrick said: “I’d always planned to run the London Marathon in 2011, and I thought running for Breast Cancer Campaign would be a great opportunity to raise money not just in Siobhan’s memory, but for all the women I know who’ve had breast cancer. Even without going outside my immediate acquaintance, that’s at least four, which is mind-boggling for all the wrong reasons. It’s been going great, though, people have been very generous. So far, I’ve raised over £4,000 and hope to raise lots more before the big day.” To help Patrick raise even more money please visit www.justgiving.com/PatrickNess2011 and donate what you can.
