So if you’ve always dreamt of exploring the depths of Peru and need an incentive to lose a few extra pounds, sign up now and help the charity continue funding vital breast cancer research. The trek runs from 22 – 31 October (registration required by end of May) during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to support the charity. It’s an intense challenge that combines breathtaking views from one of the world’s most mystifying and picturesque landmarks with physical endurance as you trek between 4 – 8 hours a day. Signing up now means you’ll have enough time to train for the challenge, helping you to burn off the extra calories from the Easter weekend. The average person would burn off 1,200 calories during a four hour walk. This is the equivalent of: • One medium sized Easter egg (one egg is approximately 1,000 calories) • Six hot cross buns (one bun is approximately 200 calories) • Two slices of simnel cake (one slice is approximately 580 calories) Kelly Walton, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Events Executive said “Our overseas challenge events raised over £180,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign last year, so that’s why we’re really encouraging people to sign up to our trek to Machu Picchu to help raise vital funds for breast cancer research. Not only will you get to explore one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, but you’ll also be helping to the 46,000 people who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK.” For more information about Campaign’s trek to Machu Picchu with Health & Fitness magazine please call 020 7749 3700, email treks@breastcancercampaign.org or visit our website breastcancercampaign.org ENDS Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 117 research projects, worth £17 million, in 44 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/ • Breast Cancer Campaign is campaigning for all candidates standing for election to Westminster to sign up to the breast cancer research pledge: www.breastcancercampaign.org/election • To find out more about Health & Fitness magazine please visit www.healthandfitnessonline.co.uk
