Press release For immediate release: 08 March 2010 Press contact: Emily Snelling, 020 7749 4102 esnelling@breastcancercampaign.org Calling all Wiltshire fundraisers, leap into action with a 10,000ft skydive! If you need a challenge to help you through the dark winter months, then why not give yourself something to look forward to by signing up to a charity skydive. Breast Cancer Campaign are encouraging people from Wiltshire to take part in a skydive at the Swindon skydive centre on the weekend of the 17-18 April 2010. Freefalling through the clouds at 120mph is a once in a lifetime experience, but it’s also a perfect opportunity to help the 45,700 women and 300 men that are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. So sign up now and help to make a difference. Jumps take place all year round at airfields across the UK. Solo jumps are available to satisfy all those with a daring streak, along with tandem jumps for anyone that’s not quite ready to go it alone. Sponsorship totals start at £360 but vary depending on which jump you choose. Cecilia Owen, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Events Assistant, said “Taking part in a skydive is something that most people would like to experience during their lifetime. But what makes this opportunity so special is that all the money raised from each jump will help us get a step closer to beating breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research.” By taking part in a skydive you will automatically become a member of Campaign’s Linford’s All Star team. Linford’s All Stars is Campaign’s team for sporty, adventurous, adrenalin-seeking people. Olympic Gold Medallist and World 100m Champion, Linford Christie, is our team captain and being part of the team will give you access to training tips and fundraising ideas. If you would like to take part in a skydive for Breast Cancer Campaign, or for more information about any of the charity’s fundraising events, please call 020 7749 4125, email adventuresports@breastcancercampaign.org or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org ENDS Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to be the leading specialist in breast cancer research across the UK and the Republic of Ireland making a significant impact for the benefit of patients • The charity currently funds 108 projects worth over £16.5 million in 41 locations across the UK • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • Every year in the UK over 45,700 women and almost 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer, and almost 12,500 women and 75 men will die from the disease • Breast Cancer Campaign is campaigning for all candidates standing for election to Westminster to sign up to the breast cancer research pledge: www.breastcancercampaign.org/election
