Press release For immediate release: xx September 2010 Press contact: Faye Golding, 020 7749 4122 fgolding@breastcancercampaign.org Calling all York volunteers to join Team Pink Paint the Town Pink will be returning to York for the second year running this October and this year Breast Cancer Campaign is aiming to make the event even bigger (and pinker!) than before. Paint the Town Pink is an annual initiative where the charity aims to turn the whole of York as pink as possible. Last year the event was supported by many local businesses and fundraisers in the area, including York FC and shops along the Shambles, and raised over £15,000 to help the charity continue funding vital breast cancer research. This year we want to raise even more so we need your help! We are looking for volunteers to join Team Pink and help with activities throughout October. This could be anything from distributing posters and pink ribbon pin badges to collecting at your local supermarket and we will support you all the way. Even just an hour or two of your time could really make a difference. Vicky Wren, 28, from York, who lost her mum to breast cancer, has joined Team Pink and will be getting involved in this year’s activities such as charity collections and helping at events. Vicky said, “I’m really excited to be part of Team Pink and want to get involved to help raise vital funds for breast cancer research. My family has been affected by breast cancer and I hope to raise awareness in the community about the disease.” Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager, said “We have lots of activities planned to make Paint the Town Pink even more successful than last year but we cannot do it without the support of volunteers across the city. Your help can really make a difference to the 46,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer every year and to how much we raise to fund vital breast cancer research.” Vicky and two friends will also be taking part in the Coast 2 Coast cycle in October, cycling 147 miles over three days to help raise funds for Breast Cancer Campaign. You can sponsor them at www.justgiving.com/team-solo.
