Press Release For immediate release: 11 August 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Close friends pedal in pink for breast cancer research Local cyclist Louise Bennett from Honiton, Devon will gear up to beat breast cancer this September by taking part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s women’s cycling event, Pedal it Pink. The Customer Services Advisor and her close friend Sarah Chipping also from Honiton will join hundreds of women at Exeter Quay for the South West’s first ever Pedal it Pink on Sunday 26 September to help beat this cancer of which they both have had friends or family who have been affected by this. Louise said: Without the support of charities like Breast Cancer Campaign, I’m sure the fantastic care that breast cancer patients receive would not continue. By taking part in Pedal it Pink, not only will I be supporting a worthwhile cause but it will also be a great way to get fit and have fun at the same time. This will be the first time Sarah and I have done Pedal it Pink and we are very much looking forward to raising money, keeping fit and enjoying the day with all the other ladies that take part.” Louise and Sarah are taking on the full marathon and hopes to raise at least £100 for their cycling challenge, so if you would like to sponsor her and Sarah, please visit www.justgiving.com/louisebennett13 and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Louise and Sarah at Pedal it Pink and help put the brakes on breast cancer, please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700 to sign up. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap. Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
