The teacher at The National School, Technology College in Hucknall teaching Modern Foreign Languages will join hundreds of women to cycle a marathon distance while raising money to help the charity beat breast cancer. She said: “My mother is in remission from cancer. She is an inspiration to me, as she has never given up fighting all the way through her chemotherapy treatment. So I want to take part in this event for her and to support the 45,500 women that will sadly be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK this year.” Farida hopes to raise no less than £200 for her cycling challenge at Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre on Sunday 25 October. If you would like to help Farida reach her target, please visit www.justgiving.com/farida2009 and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. The money raised from taking part in Pedal it Pink will help Breast Cancer Campaign to fund innovative world-class research throughout the UK to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure. If you would like to join Farida and help put the brakes on breast cancer, please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700 to sign up. Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
