Press release For immediate release: 24 September 2009 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Help paint Chester pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breast Cancer Campaign is aiming to transform Chester into a fusion of pink this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and is encouraging everyone in the local area to get involved to help raise vital funds for breast cancer research. The month-long pink event is part of Campaign’s new fundraising initiative, Paint the Town Pink, where various tourist attractions, businesses, local groups, schools and individuals will be encouraged to host pink-themed days and activities in support of the charity. Cheshire West and Chester Council have already given Campaign its full support and lots of pink events have already been confirmed to take place, including a special concert from Last Choir Standing stars ‘A Handbag of Harmonies’, a pink soldiers parade at the Dewa Roman Experience and a pink ribbon hunt at Grosvenor museum and the Military museum. (Please see attached events guide for more details.) Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn is supporting Paint the Town Pink and is urging everyone in Chester to take part. She said “Breast cancer is something that affects so many families, so that’s why I’m encouraging everyone in Chester to get involved in Paint the Town Pink this October to help Breast Cancer Campaign beat this disease. There’s a pink event for everyone and it’s a great way to have fun with family and friends while raising money for a good cause. So get you thinking caps on and start planning how you can get involved!” Anyone can get involved in Paint the Town Pink, and there are three easy ways to join in. Either take part in one of Campaign’s national events, such as wear it pink on 30 October*, attend one of the Paint the Town Pink events being held near you or hold a pink fundraising event of your own. This can be anything from a pink quiz night to a pink cake sale. For more information on how to organise your own event, or to take part in any of the Paint the town Pink events, call 020 7749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org * Schools can take part at anytime during October ENDS Picture caption: Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 101 research projects, worth over £14.1 million, in 41 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
