Press Release For immediate release: 7 February 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Husband and wife’s marathon effort to beat breast cancer Budding runners, Cheryl and Matt Crisp from Lowestoft, Suffolk have laced up their running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The couple will join thousands of runners for the 26.2mile race on Sunday 17 April in memory of Cheryl’s sister Marie Kirby (nee Bunn) who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2001 aged 33. Cheryl said: “This year is the tenth anniversary of my sister’s death and we feel running the marathon in her memory will be a lovely opportunity to remember her publicly and raise money for a charity that funds research which leads to diagnosis and treatments that can help save lives. “I ran the marathon in 2008 and raised £3,000 to commemorate Marie’s 40th birthday so I hope that lots of people will dig deep again and help Matt and I continue supporting vital research.” Matt added: “I’m excited to run with Cheryl and we’re both in training now so any support from friends, our local community and people who knew Marie would be greatly appreciated. Supporting Breast Cancer Campaign is a cause close to our hearts and we hope to raise lots of money by running in tribute to Marie.” To help Cheryl and Matt reach their fundraising target of £1500 please visit www.justgiving.com/Matt-and-Cheryl-Crisp1 and donate what you can. This year around 48,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK and sadly approximately 12,000 will die from this disease. So if you have a guaranteed place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to make a difference to the lives of all those affected by breast cancer, please join Cheryl and Matt on Campaign’s team.
