Press release For immediate release: 27 August 2010 Press contact: Faye Golding, 020 7749 4122 fgolding@breastcancercampaign.org Isle of Pink 2010 – get involved for breast cancer research! Watch out for pink buildings and pink fundraisers as Breast Cancer Campaign’s Isle of Pink returns to help raise funds for breast cancer research and promote breast cancer awareness on the island! The Isle of Pink, which is backed by the Isle of Wight Council, will have lots of support from local companies such as Wightlink, Hovertravel, Red Funnel, Southern Vectis, as well as attractions such as Blackgang Chine and Bestival, all of which will be involved in fundraising and charity collections. In particular, Shanklin High Street will be decorating lampposts with pink ribbons, and a number of the businesses along the street, such as Hazel Smith Opticians and Blueberry’s Cafe, are getting involved by selling ribbons and fundraising. The Four Lion statues on Esplanade, Cowes, also did their bit by sporting pink collars to kick-start the pink month! Wightlink Fast Cats and Hovertravel Hovercrafts will also be turning things pink for the campaign. There will be fundraising throughout September so look out for the charity’s collectors across the island and show your support by making a donation or buying a pink ribbon. This year the charity will also be launching a unique ‘Isle of Pink’ pink ribbon pin badge to offer fundraisers a special way to show their support. The pink month will draw to a close with Pink Aerobics which involves two hours of sponsored aerobics including sessions of Zumba, Street Cheer, Broadway Boogie and Pilates led by top island fitness instructors. The event takes place on Sunday 26 September at Carisbrooke High School, Newport, from 11am-1pm. If you would like to take part in Pink Aerobics please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org/isleofpink and sign up online. You can also show your support by making a text donation. Text PINK to 70099 to make a £2 donation today. Text messages cost £2 plus one message at your standard network rate. Breast Cancer Campaign will receive a minimum of £1.76 from each message sent. (£1.48 from Virgin Mobile users). Over the last two years the Isle of Pink has raised over £46,000 to help Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding vital breast cancer research - that’s £1 for every person diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK. This year we want to raise even more so make sure you get involved! Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager, said “Each year the Isle of Pink just keeps getting bigger and better so we’re really excited to make this year’s event even more of a success. We need your help though, so make sure you get into the pink spirit this September to help us beat breast cancer by funding vital research.” To find out more about the Isle of Pink and how you can get involved, please call 020 7749 3708, email lbaskett@breastcancercampaign.org or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org/isleofpink ENDS Photo: Photos available on request from Wednesday 1 September.
