Just over one month to join the race to beat breast cancer at the Bath Half Marathon
Press Release For immediate release: 31 January 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD: 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Just over one month to join the race to beat breast cancer at the Bath Half Marathon Breast Cancer Campaign is urging all runners in the south west to run for research at this year’s Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 6 March. With just over one month to go before race day, the charity wants runners who have already secured their own guaranteed place in the race to join our team. By being a part of Breast Cancer Campaign’s team you will help raise money for world-class research and help support the 46,000 people who will sadly be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK in 2011. Last year 65 runners ran for Campaign and raised an impressive £13,812. Julia Petrukhina, Events Assistant at Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “It’s a devastating fact that around 12,000 people in the UK will die from breast cancer this year, so it’s vital we keep funding research into this disease to help benefit all those affected. If you are already in training for the Bath Half and have not yet chosen a charity to raise money for, please show your support to Campaign and help us take a step closer to beating breast cancer.” Every runner who raises money for Breast Cancer Campaign will automatically become a member of the charity’s exclusive club Linford’s All Stars. As an All Stars runner, you will receive a professional running vest and information pack crammed with training and nutritional advice from the team’s captain Linford Christie. To join the team, or for more information, please call 0207 749 4114 or email events@breastcancercampaign.org ENDS Picture caption: Breast Cancer Campaign runners at Bath Half 2010 Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 92 research projects, worth over £16.5 million, in 34 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
