Press Release For immediate use: 28 June 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 4115, Email: press@breastcancercampaign.org Keep on biking for breast cancer research Breast Cancer Campaign is urging all ladies across Devon to stay on their bikes following National Bike Week and get fit in time for the South West’s first ever Pedal it Pink. Last week thousands of people across the UK got on their bikes as part of the nationwide scheme to encourage more people to cycle and we need you to stay in the saddle and get ready to help put the brakes on breast cancer on Sunday 26 September at Exeter Quay. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, offers three distances to choose from – there is a marathon distance for ladies who want to gear up the ultimate cycling challenge and also a half marathon for those who prefer a more leisurely ride. Men and children are invited to take part in the family 5k lap. The money raised from Pedal it Pink will help to fund vital breast cancer research. In the South West of England 4,755 women are diagnosed with the disease each year. Sadly around a quarter of these cases will be fatal. Catriona Wright, Events Manager at Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “So far more than 2,500 women across the UK have taken part in Pedal it Pink, either to support a loved one affected by breast cancer, or to get in shape. Whatever reason you choose, we’d love to see you on the day and help turn Exeter Quay as pink as possible. Cycling the marathon or half marathon is a great challenge and the money you raise will help us continue our mission to beat breast cancer, so please sign up today and keep the pink revolution rolling.” 50 women across Devon have already pledged their support for Pedal it Pink, so if you would like to join them on the day please register at www.breastcancercampaign.org, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700. It costs £15 for the full marathon, £10 for the half marathon and just £5 for the family 5k lap – everyone is encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship. Don’t forget to invite your mothers, sisters, best friends and colleagues to take part too.
