Press Release For immediate release: 2 August 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local friends’ angelic race to beat breast cancer A team of 16 friends from Muswell Hill in London will be pulling on their fairy wings and polishing their halos this summer to take part in the adidas Women’s 5K Challenge in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. Simone Antoniazzi and her team ‘The Cupcake Angels’ will run for breast cancer research in Hyde Park on Sunday 5 September inspired by the memory of Simone’s aunt and mother-in-law who both sadly passed away from breast cancer. Simone said: “We are a group of 40-something mums, some who work, some who are at home with their children. It was my idea to run the race as two years ago I lost my mother-in-law to breast cancer and last September I lost my aunt who was only 53. I really wanted to do this run and fundraise in their memory. One of our runners, Dee, is a breast cancer survivor and we are very proud to have her running with us, she is an inspiration to all of us.” She added: “Two of our runners, Lucinda Cooper and Helen Hodge, own Emporium Tea Rooms on Fortis Green and they are sponsoring us, hence our team name, the Cupcake Angels. We have been meeting in the tea room to "talk tactics" and to plan our fundraising so I hope lots of people will sponsor our team and help Breast Cancer Campaign take a step closer to beating breast cancer.” Emporium Tea Rooms will also be holding a fundraising day on Saturday 4 September with cake decorating, face painting and other fun activities. The Cupcake Angels are hoping to raise £1000 plus so if you would like to sponsor them, please visit http://www.justgiving.com/CupcakeAngels and donate what you can. Every day 125 people are diagnosed with breast cancer, so if you would like to join Simone and her friends on Campaign’s running team, please contact the Events team on 020 7749 3700 or email womenschallenge@breastcancercampaign.org Ends Picture caption: From left to right - Carol Montgomery, Simone Antoniazzi, Fiona Grainger, Gill Boyle, Helen Hodge, Simone Gold, Lucinda Cooper, Dee Barry.
