Press Release For immediate release: 22 February 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local friends join the race to beat breast cancer Budding runners Celia Wykes and Emma Brown from Collingtree village, Northampton have laced up their running shoes to train for the Silverstone Half Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The pair will join thousands of runners at the starting line on Sunday 14 March after Celia’s mother had breast cancer five years ago. Thankfully she made a full recovery but last year, Celia’s cousin was also diagnosed and underwent a double mastectomy. Celia said: As two members of my family have been affected by breast cancer, I wanted to raise money for a charity that funds research into this disease, so last year I put on my trainers and took part in the London Moonwalk and raised £2,000. This year we wanted a bit more of a challenge so we decided to enter the Silverstone Half Marathon. The one thing that keeps us going when the training gets tough is the thought that the money we raise will ultimately benefit my cousin and the thousands of other women currently going through the same thing as her.” To help Celia and Emma reach their fundraising target of £2,000 please visit www.justgiving.com/celiawykes and donate what you can. If you have a place in this year’s Silverstone Half Marathon and would like to join Celia and Emma on Campaign’s running team, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org. As a Campaign runner you will automatically become a member of Linford’s All Stars – a new exclusive club captained by Linford Christie, who offers supporters helpful training tips and nutritional advice.
