Press release For immediate release: 24 September 2009 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Local fundraisers tee off to beat breast cancer Two fundraisers from Essex have raised over £16,000 to help beat breast cancer by holding a successful golf day and dinner and dance in support of Breast Cancer Campaign and a local breast cancer unit. The event took place at Blakes golf club, North Weald, on Friday 18 September. Thirteen teams of friends, family and clients attended the event to raise money for both charities, paying £300 to enter as a team of four. This included a half day of golf and entry to the evening dance with dinner and cabaret. Many local companies supported the event by sponsoring holes around the course and supplying prizes for the auction in the evening. These included a signed Girls Aloud tour brochure, a meal for two at Langan’s brasserie in Mayfair and a beauty box, which raised a fantastic £1,000. Organiser Marcia Levan-Harris, a pilates instructor from Buckhurst Hill, decided to organise the event with client Tommy Tompkins after fundraising for Breast Cancer Campaign for over 12 years. She had taken part in and organised various fundraising activities in the past, such as charity runs and raffles, but was keen to hold a charity golf day. So she approached golfing enthusiast Tommy who has sponsored many charity golf events in the past to make the event a success. Marcia said “I’m over the moon with how successful the event was. Everyone had a great time and we’re thrilled with how generous all the guests were. We’ve even started thinking about planning another event for next year. I’ve supported Breast Cancer Campaign for a long time so I’m really proud to have raised so much money to help them get a step closer to beating breast cancer.” All the money raised from the event will be donated to Breast Cancer Campaign and the Princes Alexander Health Trust in Essex. Anyone can hold a fundraising event for Campaign, no matter how large or small.
