Press Release For immediate release: 10 January 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local girls set to raise £30k for climbing Kili to beat breast cancer A team of fundraisers from Shrewsbury are calling on their local community to help them reach their £30,000 target for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign this February. Amy Broster and her friends Heidi Andrew, Marie Fraser and Pippa Card have so far raised a whopping £28,000 from various fundraising activities, including a fashion show, hog roast, horse jumping show and quiz night, as well as donations from local companies, friends and families and would like to reach their £30,000 target before their mountain adventure begins on Wednesday 2 February 2010. Amy, 29, who works at Turnbull Garrard Solicitors in Shrewsbury will climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Breast Cancer Campaign to support her auntie, Jill Wainwright, who has been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Amy said: “My friends and I have had a jam-packed 12 months raising money for our Mount Kilimanjaro challenge and we’re thrilled with the support we’ve received so far. The fashion show, which sponsored by Brewin Dolphin, raised a whopping £7,000 and our two quiz nights held at Mereside Community Centre in July and October raised £2,000. We’ve also raised thousands of pounds from a Ball organised by BMW Rybrook Shrewsbury and a horse jumping show sponsored by NFU Mutual in Shrewsbury so we’re extremely grateful to everyone who has helped us raise an incredible amount of money.” She added: “My auntie was first diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago and was treated with Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy and in October 2009, was given the all clear. But sadly, her cancer returned in April 2010 and it has spread to her bones. Her diagnosis has had a devastating impact on my family so I’m determined to raise as much money as I can to help Campaign beat this disease, so please donate whatever you can to help us reach our target and help the charity continue funding world-class breast cancer research.” To sponsor Amy and her friends for the Mount Kilimanjaro challenge, please visit www.original.justgiving.com/amybroster Amy would like to thank the following people and organisations for their kind donations and support: Turnbull Garrard Solicitors in Shrewsbury, Brewin Dolphin, BMW Rybrook Shrewsbury, Tanners Wines, Mereside Community Centre, NFU Mutual in Shrewsbury, Linda and Charles Britton at South View Equestrian Centre, the Boat House Pub in Shrewsbury.
