Press release For immediate release: 23 February 2010 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Local mum scales Kilimanjaro to beat breast cancer An adventurous fundraiser from Hertfordshire has returned home after successfully scaling the heights of Kilimanjaro, raising a fantastic £4,500 for Breast Cancer Campaign. Jo Carter, a mum from St. Albans, took part in the challenge from 3 – 14 February in memory of her mum, Margaret Warren, who died of breast cancer 11 years ago. Margaret was a very keen walker and Jo was eager to follow in her footsteps by taking on this trek as a personal challenge for herself. Jo also celebrated her 45th birthday while she was away. Jo said “I wanted to give something back to show my appreciation for all the support my mum received when she was ill and I’m really proud to have supported Breast Cancer Campaign in this way. The challenge was fantastic and it was such an achievement for me to complete it on my own. The scenery was spectacular and you meet such a mix of people. We all had a great time and I’ve made some life-long friends.” All the money raised by Jo will help Breast Cancer Campaign beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research. You can help increase Jo’s total by making a donation via her Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/Jo-Carter-Kilimanjaro-challenge Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes to ever break through the Earth’s crust. This intense adventure sees trekkers tackle every eco-system known to mankind as they ascend across rough terrain and tackle high-altitude conditions in an attempt to reach its summit.
