Press release For immediate release: 23 February 2010 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Local nurse gears up for charity China challenge An adventurous fundraiser from North Lanarkshire is set to embark on the adventure of a lifetime when she bravely attempts to trek the Great Wall of China next month in support of Breast Cancer Campaign. Jetta Chita, 50, a practise nurse from Airdrie, will begin her nine-day challenge in Jinshanling on 3 April where she will then trek along China’s most famous landmark. Each day of this intense challenge includes a 12km walk through the scenic mountain ranges before ending with a stop at Beijing to explore the culture of China’s capital city. Walking the Great Wall had been an ambition for Jetta for a number of years. She has a passion for hill walking and even used to belong to a local walking group. It was only after her best friend died of cancer last year however that she was inspired to take plunge and fulfil her dream in order to raise money for charity. Jetta said “I see patients fighting breast cancer on a daily basis, so I’m very aware of the importance of raising awareness and money to help beat this disease. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, so if I can help just one person affected by the disease it will have been worth it and I’m very proud to be supporting Breast Cancer Campaign.” Jetta has raised a fantastic £3,000 by organising a number of events with friends and colleagues, ranging from car boot sales and raffles to race nights. Jetta has also been encouraging her patients to sponsor her and is hoping to raise much more before she departs for China, all of which will help Breast Cancer Campaign beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research.
