Press release For immediate release: 8 September 2009 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Local police officer cycles to Paris to beat breast cancer An adventurous police officer from Northamptonshire has successfully cycled from London to Paris in just three days to help raise vital funds for breast cancer research. Sergeant Andy Labrum, 43, from Northampton, set off on his 200 mile journey with best friend Paul Mills on 28 August in support of Breast Cancer Campaign. So far managed the pair have managed to raise a fantastic £1,575 to help the charity beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research. Andy decided he wanted to take part in the charity’s London to Paris cycle ride after his mum died of secondary breast cancer in March this year. He and Paul enjoy cycling and have taken part in several extreme events before, including the London Marathon and Three Peaks challenge. But this time they wanted to raise money specifically in memory of Andy’s mum Alice. Andy said “Taking part in the London to Paris cycle ride was fantastic. It is a tough event, but the stunning scenery and beautiful roads made it all worthwhile. It was just breathtaking and we felt such a sense of achievement when we reached the finish line at Paris. It was an incredibly emotional experience for me and I’m so grateful of how generous people have been. Breast cancer affects so many families, so hopefully our efforts will help Breast Cancer Campaign get a step closer to beating this disease.” Campaign’s London to Paris bike ride is perfect challenge for anyone with an interest in cycling and is a great way to get fit as participants attempt to cycle over 200 miles in three days.
