Press Release For immediate release: 1 February 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local postman’s marathon challenge after father and family had breast cancer Budding runner Dean Keeber, from Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire has pulled on his running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Postman will join thousands of runners at the starting line on Sunday 25 April after his father was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. Thankfully he has made a good recovery following treatment. Dean is also running in memory of his grandmother and wife’s grandmother who both sadly passed away from the disease. Dean said: “It was such a huge shock to discover my dad had breast cancer as our family had no idea breast cancer could affect males before his diagnosis. Luckily though, he has been given the all clear since his treatment so I want to run for him, mine and my wife’s grandmothers and the 46,000 people who will be diagnosed this year.” Phil Hope, MP for Corby, fully supports Dean’s marathon mission. He said: “I’m thrilled that Dean Keeber from my constituency is running the London Marathon for Breast Cancer Campaign to raise money for vital research into this disease. I wish him lots of luck and fully support his challenge for this very worthwhile cause to help the 46,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year.” To help Dean reach his fundraising target of £2,000 please visit www.justgiving.com/deankeeber and donate what you can. Dean is also organising a raffle and a charity golf day at Northampton’s Collingtree Park golf course on Sunday 28 March.
