Press Release For immediate release: 27 April 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner completes 17th marathon to help beat breast cancer Veteran runner Fred Eastham from Cherry Tree, Blackburn pounded the pavements in London on Sunday (25 April) for an incredible 17th time at the Virgin London Marathon for Breast Cancer Campaign. The retired BT Engineer, 79, joined 36,000 runners for the 26.2 mile race to support his niece Rebecca who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, aged 41. He completed the race in five hours 43 minutes and raised £2,500 with son John, who also took part for Breast Cancer Campaign. Fred said afterwards: “It was a brilliant atmosphere and everyone was shouting my name as I ran past them. The Breast Cancer Campaign team were fantastic cheering me on, especially at mile 25 when they gave me that push to finish it. I’m thrilled I’ve raised so much money for the charity to help them fund vital breast cancer research.” Breast Cancer Campaign has lots of places available in runs throughout 2010 and 2011 so if you would like more information about running for Breast Cancer research, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org.
