Press Release For immediate release: 22 February 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s 19th marathon for breast cancer research Budding runner Kirste Snellgrove, from Benfleet, Essex, will lace up her trainers to complete her 19th marathon this April by taking on the Virgin London Marathon for Breast Cancer Campaign. The Police Officer at Essex Police College has run more than 470 miles in marathons across the world and will join thousands of other runners at the London event on Sunday 25 April. She decided to run and raise money for breast cancer research after being diagnosed with cancer in 2005, aged 35. Kirste said: “I was never going to let cancer ruin my running. I have moaned and groaned my way around many miles but always smile when I go over the line. It is an honour to run for Breast Cancer Campaign as they have funded a drug that has kept me alive today. I love life, I love my running and cancer can try to interfere with that as much as it likes but it will never get me down.” Kirste will be running with her partner John Bowman and her two friends Anna Spencer and Rachel O'Conner, together they hope to raise £ 5,000. Kirste added: “Every penny we raise will help the charity’s mission to beat breast cancer so we hope lots of people will dig deep and help us reach our target.” To sponsor the team, please visit www.justgiving.com/teamsnellgrove If you have a place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to join Kirste on Campaign’s running team, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org.
