Press Release For immediate release: 17 August 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s fifth Great race to beat breast cancer Budding runner Janet Casson from Wallsend, Tyne and Wear will lace up her trainers this September to run her fifth Great North Run in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Complementary Therapist will join 54,000 runners on the starting line in Newcastle on Sunday 19 September in memory of her mother Gladys who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1981 and also in memory of her friend Alison who died from the disease in 2009. Janet is also running to support her sister Cath who was diagnosed in 2005, her stepmother Rose and friend Anne who are also being treated. Janet, who is running with five close friends and has raised more than £10,000 for Campaign, said: “I’m excited to run my fifth Great North Run and raising money for breast cancer research is a cause close to my heart. This disease has affected a lot of people who are close to me so I hope lots of people will dig deep and sponsor me so that we can help Breast Cancer Campaign get closer to finding a cure.” I you would like to sponsor Janet, please visit www.justgiving.com/Janet-Casson0 and donate what you can. Last year 300 Campaign runners wore their pink running vests with pride and raised a whopping £160,000 for vital breast cancer research. If you have a place in the Great North Run and would like to join Janet on Campaign’s team, please call 020 7749 4114 or email greatnorthrun@breastcancercampaign.org All runners who sign up with Campaign will automatically become a member of Linford’s All Stars – an exclusive club captained by Linford Christie, who offers supporters helpful training tips and nutritional advice. Runners will also receive a fundraising pack containing a Breast Cancer Campaign running vest and lots of fundraising ideas.
