Press Release For immediate release: 21 March 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s marathon effort to beat breast cancer Budding runner James Soames from Northwood, Middlesex has been pounding the pavements in training for the Brighton Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Marketing Director at BSkyB will join thousands of runners for the 26.2mile race on Sunday 10 April to support his sister-in-law who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and has just completed chemo and radiotherapy. James said: “Since my sister-in-law’s diagnosis I have been keen to raise money for breast cancer research and I’m thrilled to run the Brighton Marathon for Breast Cancer Campaign. This is my final marathon; I think three in less than a year is good going, unless you’re Eddie Izzard! This final run is for all the strong women who face it and deal with it every day. The aching and the pain spur me on because no matter what I'm going through on the day, it's nothing compared to what you guys deal with. I salute you all. Raising money for research into a disease that affected our family is a cause close to my heart so I hope people will sponsor me for this challenge and help the charity take a step closer to beating breast cancer.” To help James reach his fundraising target of £1,000 please visit www.justgiving.com/james-soames2 and donate what you can. This year around 48,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK and sadly approximately 12,000 will die from this disease. So if you have a guaranteed place in the Brighton Marathon and would like to make a difference to the lives of all those affected by breast cancer, please join James on Campaign’s team. For more information, please call the Events team on 0207 749 4114 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org. If you have your own place there is no minimum sponsorship amount and each runner who signs up will receive a fundraising pack including a Breast Cancer Campaign running vest, sponsorship forms and lots of support from the charity on the day.
