Press Release For immediate release: 1 February 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s marathon effort to fund breast cancer research Budding runner Craig Winter from Gosport, Hants, has pulled on his running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Regional Account Executive will join thousands of runners at the starting line on Sunday 25 April to support his aunt Ruth who was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time at the end of 2007 and, following treatment, she is now doing well. Craig said: “My family has been affected by breast cancer in recent years so I’m determined to raise as much money as possible for Campaign to help them continue funding vital research into this disease. This research won’t just help my aunt but also the other 45,500 women that will sadly be diagnosed with breast cancer throughout the UK this year.” In order to reach his fundraising target of £1,500 Craig, who is a season ticket holder at Portsmouth, is planning to visit all 92 football league clubs in England and Wales in one week! He will be asking each club to donate a shirt, signed football, or other memorabilia during the seven days which he will start from Fratton Park on Saturday 27 February. A raffle will then be held on Saturday 3 April at a quiz night which he is currently organising with his aunt Trish who is also running the marathon. Sir Peter Viggers, MP for Gosport, has given Craig his full backing for the running challenge. He said: 'I'm delighted that Craig in my constituency is running the London Marathon for Breast Cancer Campaign to raise money for vital research into this disease. He has been imaginative in his fund-raising and I'm sure everyone will wish him well in his efforts on behalf of the 46,000 people who are diagnosed with this disease every year.’ To help Craig reach his target, please visit www.justgiving.com/craigwinter2010 and donate what you can. If you have a place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to join Craig on Campaign’s running team, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org.
