Press Release For immediate release: 22 February 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s marathon effort to fund breast cancer research Budding runner Emma Lander from Wooburn Green, High Wycombe has pulled on her running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Purchase Ledger Manager will join thousands of runners at the starting line on Sunday 25 April in memory of her mother Doreen who sadly passed away from breast cancer on 27 April 2000 aged 48. Emma said: “As this year marks the tenth anniversary of my mum’s passing, I wanted to do something special and running the London Marathon is the perfect way to mark the occasion as it’s only two days before the anniversary. Both my father and brother have run the marathon in the past and every time I watch them I’ve found myself wishing that I could find the motivation to run one too.” She added: “I’m not a natural born runner and know that running for my mother will get me round. I can’t wait to experience the sense of achievement of crossing the finishing line and also doing something that I know would make my mother proud. Above all I would like to raise as much as possible for a very worthy cause, one which is very close to my heart.” To help Emma reach her fundraising target of £1,500 please visit http://www.justgiving.com/Emma-Lander and donate what you can. All money raised will help Campaign’s mission to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world class research into the disease throughout the UK and Ireland. If you have a place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to join Emma on Campaign’s running team, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org.
