Press Release For immediate release: 7 February 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s marathon effort to fund breast cancer research Budding runner Katy Towse from Folkestone in Kent has laced up her running shoes to train for the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The Head of Publicity for Pathe Films will join thousands of runners for the 26.2mile race on Sunday 17 April to support her grandmother Joy Gavin who had breast cancer a year ago. Following treatment she is now doing well. She is also running for a personal challenge and as part of her on-going fitness regime. Katy said: “In October 2010 I took part in my first half marathon, which was a real achievement, so now I’m excited to be training for my first full marathon. My mum has done lots of fundraising for a breast cancer charity in Kent so I thought I would do my bit to honour my nan by running and raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign. Nan handled her diagnosis with such grace so I think running 26.2miles will be a great way to show her how proud I am and how much I admire her strength. I hope lots of people will sponsor me to help Campaign continue funding world-class breast cancer research.” Katy is currently training with her husband Mark and has so far raised £2,465 after holding a Girls Night In fundraising event at the end of January. If you would like to sponsor Katy please visit http://www.justgiving.com/Katy-Towse and donate what you can. This year around 48,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK and sadly approximately 12,000 will die from this disease. So if you have a guaranteed place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to make a difference to the lives of all those affected by breast cancer, please join Katy on Campaign’s team. For more information, please call the Events team on 0207 749 4114 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org. If you have your own place there is no minimum sponsorship amount and each runner who signs up will receive a fundraising pack including a Breast Cancer Campaign running vest, sponsorship forms and lots of support from the charity on the day.
