Press Release For immediate release: 14 February 2011 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s second marathon effort in tribute to mother-in-law Budding runner, Steve Amos from Wickford, Essex has laced up his running shoes to train for his second London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The IT Manager will join thousands of runners for the 26.2mile race on Sunday 17 April in memory of his mother-in-law Jean Dobson who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2002. Steve said: “I’m very excited to run the London Marathon again for Breast Cancer Campaign as it’s a cause very close to my heart. Losing Jean was the most painful time of our lives, but what brought us together as a family was the need to do something in her memory and I’m proud to run as a tribute to her. Since my last marathon I have kept running, sometimes the training can be uncomfortable or even painful, but when I think of what Jean experienced in the final year of her life my pain doesn’t compare and I just keep going.” Steve last ran the London Marathon in 2009 and raised an impressive £2,099. He added: “Running the marathon was a fantastic experience – Breast Cancer Campaign supported me right through my training and their cheering squad on race day was amazing, so I am very pleased to run for them again.” To help Steve reach his target of £1,500 please visit www.justgiving.com/steve-amos and donate what you can to help Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding world-class breast cancer research. This year around 48,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK and sadly approximately 12,000 will die from this disease. So if you have a guaranteed place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to make a difference to the lives of all those affected by breast cancer, please join Steve on Campaign’s team.
