The Sales Assistant will join 54,000 runners on the starting line for the 13.1 mile race in Newcastle this Sunday (19th September) after her mother Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2006. Ann underwent a lumpectomy to remove the cancer and several weeks later was told she needed a second operation. There was a three week intensive course of radiotherapy to follow, two years of taking the drug tamoxifen and she is currently taking the drug arimidex which this treatment is ongoing for another year and a half. The treatment is going very well and she is doing fantastic. Tracy’s auntie Angela was also diagnosed with the disease in 2000. Tracy, who ran the Great North Run last year for Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “After seeing family members affected by breast cancer running for this charity was an obvious choice. It was a fantastic day and the atmosphere was brilliant. I enjoyed running for the campaign last year and hope that lots of people will sponsor me this year to raise as much money as possible to help the charity continue their mission to beat breast cancer.” To help Tracy raise as much money as possible she is asking family, friends and work colleges to sponsor her. Last year 300 Campaign runners wore their pink running vests with pride and raised a whopping £160,000 for vital breast cancer research. If you have your own place there is still time to join Campaign’s team –simply call 020 7749 4114 or email greatnorthrun@breastcancercampaign.org to sign up.
