Press release For immediate release: 1 February 2010 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Local tattoo artist raises £1,400 charity with pink head shave A local fundraiser from West Bromwich raised £1,407 to help beat breast cancer last weekend by holding a fundraising night in support of Breast Cancer Campaign. Tattoo artist Macky Davies, 47, held a karoke and disco night at the Oakdale Club, West Bromwich, where over 180 people attended to support the charity. Macky also gave guests a special treat by dying his hair pink and shaving it all off to raise extra funds. Macky was inspired to start fundraising for the charity by one of the organsiers of the Fudgestock rock festival held in West Bromwich every year in support of Campaign. He has met several people through his work who have been affected by breast cancer so was keen to raise money to help beat the disease. Macky said “I know a few people who are going through treatment for breast cancer at the moment so I really wanted to do my bit by helping to raise money for a good cause. The night was a complete success and everyone had a great time. Hopefully my efforts will go someway to helping Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding research into this awlful disease and I’m planning on holding many more events to carry on helping the charity in the future.” All the money raised from this event will help Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding vital breast cancer research. This includes Dr Berditchevski’s project at the University of Birmingham which aims to study a molecule called CD9, which is believed to play a critical role in breast cancer cells spreading to other parts of the body. Anyone can hold a fundraising event for Campaign, no matter how large or small.
