The art teacher at St Paul’s Catholic School will lace up her walking boots for the ten-day trip on 9 April 2011 and will take in the beautiful sights of Cusco, the ancient Inca capital, followed by the famous Lares hot springs and the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu. The Lares trail is graded as ‘tough’ and reaches an altitude of 4,400m. Nights will be spent in tents at near freezing temperatures. Bridget decided to take part in the challenge and raise money for Campaign to support the 48,000 people who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year. Bridget said: “I completed the Great Wall of China challenge in 2008 and was hungry for a new challenge so I’m thrilled to take part in the trek to Machu Picchu for Breast Cancer Campaign. I really love helping others, it gives me great satisfaction and raising money for breast cancer research is a very worthwhile cause. I hope lots of people will sponsor me and help the charity take a step closer to beating breast cancer.” If you would like to sponsor Bridget, please email bridgetmwaters@hotmail.com to arrange a donation. Every year 48,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer – that’s 130 a day – so if you have been inspired by Bridget’s story and would like to do a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Campaign to help them continue funding world-class research, please call 0207 749 4114 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org Ends Picture caption: Bridget Waters Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 81 research projects, worth over £15.5 million, in 31 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 48,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 130 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
