Maureen, 70, has raised more than £2,000 for breast cancer research and completed last year’s race in an impressive 34 minutes. She will be running alongside thousands of others on Sunday 5 September in London’s Hyde Park in memory of her friend Janet Eavis who sadly passed away from breast cancer in December 2008. Maureen said: “Every year I really enjoy taking part in the adidas Women’s Challenge and although I find it hard at times, I know every step I take will make a difference to all the women affected by breast cancer. I’m thrilled to have raised so much money for Breast Cancer Campaign to help them continue their mission to beat this disease by funding vital research.” Every day 125 people are diagnosed with breast cancer, so if you would like to join Maureen the Guardian Angels team for Campaign, please contact the Running team on 020 7749 4114 or email womenschallenge@breastcancercampaign.org Ends Picture caption: Maureen Batterbee at last year’s adidas Women’s Challenge Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 105 research projects, worth over £16.2 million, in 38 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
