Press Release For immediate release: 20 September 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Mother and daughter pedal in pink for breast cancer research Local cyclist Lynne Hollis from Exminster will gear up to beat breast cancer this Sunday (26 September) by taking part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s women’s cycling event, Pedal it Pink. The housewife and part time mental health nurse will join hundreds of women at Exeter Quay for the South West’s first ever Pedal it Pink after her mother Brenda had breast cancer 10 years ago. Lynne said: “My mum had a mastectomy which was successful as she is still going strong today. It was a horrible time for us as a family not knowing if your mother will live through this and we are all so grateful that her condition was recognised and acted on quickly with kindness and compassion. My five year old daughter Taryn is going to join me on the Family 5k Lap as I wanted to involve her as it helps to encourage children to be more active and help raise awareness for a good cause.” Lynne is hoping to £250 so if you would like to sponsor her, please visit www.justgiving.com/lynne-taryn and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Lynne at Pedal it Pink and help put the brakes on breast cancer, please sign up on the day at the registration tent in the event village at Piazza Terracina on Exeter Quay. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap.
