Press Release For immediate release: 9 August 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Nicky rides in pink for breast cancer research Local cyclist Nicky Ingarfield from Axminster, Devon will gear up to beat breast cancer this September by taking part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s women’s cycling event, Pedal it Pink. The School Finance Officer at Avishayes School, Chard will join hundreds of women at Exeter Quay for the South West’s first ever Pedal it Pink on Sunday 26 September to support her mother-in-law Joan Ingarfield who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Following radiotherapy treatment and medication she is now doing well. Nicky said: “Thankfully my mother-in-law is doing really well but she may not have been so lucky if it wasn’t for the advances in medicine, research and the care she received at her hospital. My husband did a marathon for breast cancer research (we are both runners) so I thought it would be nice to do something else. So when I saw Pedal it Pink in my local paper I thought it would be a great thing to do and would make a change from running. I hope lots more women will get on their bikes and join me on the day to help raise much needed funds for research into this disease.” Nicky is taking on the full marathon with her sister-in-law, Lorraine Hill and is hoping to raise as much money as possible for her cycling challenge, so if you would like to sponsor her, please visit http://original.justgiving.com/nickyingarfield and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Nicky at Pedal it Pink and help put the brakes on breast cancer, please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700 to sign up. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap. Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
