Press Release For immediate release: 11 October 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org One week to Pedal it Pink Nottingham will turn pink this Sunday (17 October) as hundreds of women from across the Midlands will cycle for breast Cancer research at the city’s annual Pedal it Pink event in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The charity is still encouraging more women to take part so please get together with your mothers, daughters, sisters and friends and help put the brakes on breast cancer. Budding cyclist, Alison Nunn from Colwick, Nottingham, has signed up for a second time to support her mum Marie Brown who was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and is now in remission, and also to support her niece Claire Martin who was diagnosed earlier this year and has undergone chemo and radiotherapy. The property letting manager who completed the full marathon distance Pedal it Pink in 2009, said: “I really enjoyed the event last year and it was great to see so many women cycling in pink for this very worthwhile cause. I’m taking part again to support my loved ones and to applaud their bravery and selflessness. I hope lots of people will sponsor me and help the charity continue their mission to beat breast cancer.” Alison is taking on the marathon and hopes to raise £100 so if you would like to sponsor her, please visit www.justgiving.com/Alison-Nunn and donate what you can. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Alison at Pedal it Pink, please sign up at the registration desk at the National Water Sports Centre from 9.30am. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap. Please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org for more information. At last year’s event 550 women cycled around the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont and raised a whopping £35,000. In total, four Pedal it Pink events across the UK have raised more than £200,000 to help Campaign fund vital breast cancer research.
