Press release For immediate release: 5 October2010 Press contact: Faye Golding, 020 7749 4122 fgolding@breastcancercampaign.org Paint Reading pink – get involved for breast cancer research Watch out for pink buildings and pink fundraisers as Breast Cancer Campaign’s Paint the Town Pink returns to help raise funds for breast cancer research and promote breast awareness in Reading. Returning to Reading for the second year running this October, Breast Cancer Campaign is aiming to make this year’s event even bigger (and pinker!) than before. Paint the Town Pink is an annual initiative where the charity aims to turn the whole of Reading as pink as possible. In particular, this year the Oracle shopping centre will be a focus point for pink fundraising activity, from 4-10 October and 25-31 October, and will itself be turning pink to help promote breast cancer awareness in the community. London Irish and Reading FC will once again be supporting the campaign, by having pink fundraising days on Saturday 2 and 30 October respectively, where people are invited to come dressed in pink, as well as there being raffles and collections. Reading FC will be awarding prizes being awarded for the pinkest visitors. The pink activities will then come to a close as everyone in Reading is encouraged to take part in Campaign’s national wear it pink day on Friday 29 October. Simply wear an item of pink and donate £2. It’s so easy everyone can get involved! You can show your support by donating to Team Pink collectors across the city or buying a Paint the Town Pink ribbon from local shops and businesses. Or you can text PINK to 70007 to make a £2 donation today. Text messages cost £2 plus one message at your standard network rate. Breast Cancer Campaign will receive a minimum of £1.76 from each message sent. (£1.48 from Virgin Mobile users). Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager, said “Paint the Town Pink in Reading last year was a huge success but this year we’re setting our sights even higher. The Oracle’s support is going to play a major role in helping us raise awareness of the initiative to local supporters and hopefully get more people involved with the charity to help us continue funding vital breast cancer research.” To find out more about the Paint the Town Pink in Reading and how you can get involved, please call 020 7749 3708, email lbaskett@breastcancercampaign.org or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org/paintthetownpink ENDS Photos: The Oracle gets ready for Paint the Town Pink Notes to editors • Text donation starts from Monday 20 September 2010. • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 104 research projects, worth almost £16.1 million, in 38 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
