Press release For immediate release: 5 November 2010 Press contact: Press office, 020 7749 4122 fgolding@breastcancercampaign.org Paint the Town Pink success in Reading Breast Cancer Campaign’s Paint the Town Pink fundraising initiative saw Reading go pink, pink and more pink throughout October and the charity hopes to raise £50,000 to help fund vital breast cancer research. With the help of local businesses, volunteers and supporters, Reading was awash with pink fundraising activities and events. The Oracle shopping centre held pink fundraising days and Reading FC and London Irish Rugby Club boys showed their support by wearing it pink and also held pink fundraising days which included raffles and pinkest visitor competitions to help raise much needed cash. An army of Team Pink volunteers also got involved with fundraising and charity collections and contributed greatly to Paint the Town Pink’s success. Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager, said “We’re absolutely delighted by how many people got on board and backed our Paint the Town Pink fundraising initiative in Reading this year. The support from the community was amazing and we would like to thank everyone who got involved, donated, volunteered and helped at events making this year’s month-long event a huge success.” ENDS Photos: (1) Collector at The Oracle (2) Collector at the Irish Rugby Club fundraising day Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 99 research projects, worth almost £17.3 million, in 38 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
