Pedal it Pink is a women only cycle ride for Breast Cancer Campaign, taking place in Exeter on 26 September on the Exe Cycleway at Exeter Quay. With summer now officially here, there has never been a better time to dust off your bike and get pedalling! By entering Pedal it Pink, not only will you be raising money for a great cause, you will be setting yourself a new fitness and weight loss goal. Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, is a marathon distance (26.2miles), which burns around 2,000 calories on a bike, helping you to attain that dream bikini body! The money raised from Pedal it Pink will help to fund vital research in to breast cancer. In the South West of England 4,755 women are diagnosed with the disease each year. Sadly around a quarter of these cases will be fatal. Sue Bond, 57, from Bideford in Devon was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and is currently doing well. She formed a volunteer group called the Bosom Buddies and has been an active fundraiser for Breast Cancer Campaign for a number of years. Sue said, “As a long term supporter of Breast Cancer Campaign I’m thrilled they are holding their Pedal it Pink event in Exeter this September. I was diagnosed with breast cancer three and half years ago so funding research into this disease is a cause close to my heart and I hope lots of women across the South West will dig out their bikes and take part in this cycling event while helping the charity move closer to finding a cure.” Catriona Wright, Events Manager at Breast Cancer Campaign, said, “We’re so pleased to launch Pedal it Pink in the South West. We hope that lots of women from across the region will take up this unique challenge and contribute to a great cause. Pedal it Pinks are now taking place all over the UK and so far we have raised over £195,000 to help fund vital research into breast cancer. So come on ladies, dig out your bike, find your pinkest outfit and take part in this fun cycling adventure while raising money to help beat breast cancer.” If you would like to get involved in Pedal it Pink but don’t fancy cycling a full marathon, you can opt for the half marathon distance or the family 5K lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life). All routes are traffic-free, so it’s safe and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. Entries for the Exeter Pedal it Pink are now open on the website www.breastcancercampaign.org. Entry to the full marathon is £15, half marathon £10, and the family 5k lap just £5.
