The Ragabonds is an official collective of volunteers made up of former students who were part of RAG (Raising and Giving) societies at university and have decided to continue fundraising after graduation. Over the past year the Ragabonds have helped fundraise through charity collections at a number of events, including Campaign’s megaraids, where RAG teams compete to see who can raise the most money for the charity in one day. Despite many of them working full-time, they give up an amazing amount of time to support charities across the UK. Since 2005, the Ragabonds have raised over £50,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign. Ragabonds community founder, Simon Painter, from Reading, said, “The Ragabonds are delighted to have been nominated for Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘RAG Fundraiser of the Year’ award. It is a charity we are particularly proud to support to help raise awareness about breast cancer and help fund the life-changing research aimed at beating the disease.” Pamela Goldberg, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Chief Executive said, “Our awards ceremony publicly recognises the amazing achievements and contributions by our fundraisers and supporters over the last 12 months towards Breast Cancer Campaign’s research. Their support is essential to helping us achieve our mission of beating the disease and I wish the Ragabonds and everyone else who has been nominated the best of luck.” The Ragabonds will find out if they have won at Breast Cancer Campaign’s awards ceremony on 17 June 2010 at the House of Lords.
