Press release For immediate release: 26 October 2010 Press contact: Marilena Patuto, 020 7749 3720 mpatuto@breastcancercampaign.org RAGS unite in the capital to raise almost £57,000 to beat breast cancer Raising and Giving groups (RAGs) from universities across the country joined forces on Friday 22 October in support of Breast Cancer Campaign, raising a fantastic £56,753.90 to help the charity continue funding vital breast cancer research. RAG collectors from Cambridge, Bangor, Nottingham, Loughborough and Manchester Universities travelled to London to take part in Campaign’s annual megaraid, which is held to promote and raise funds for the charity’s national wear it pink day on Friday 29 October. Over 200 students took part in the megaraid, and were positioned all across the city to collect at prominent stations and locations from 7am to 7pm, raising over £6000 more than last year. RAGs from Nottingham University were named top RAG group, raising almost £22,000 for the charity in the space of 12 hours. Lauren Baskett, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Community Development Manager, said “Breast Cancer Campaign is delighted with the amount of money raised by all of the RAG groups at the wear it pink megaraid. Their support and hard work is invaluable to us and their efforts will help us get a step closer to achieving our goal of beating breast cancer.
