Press release For immediate release: 8 February 2010 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Reading volunteers needed to help beat breast cancer Calling all budding volunteers – Breast Cancer Campaign needs you! Supporters across Reading are being encouraged to help beat breast cancer by volunteering at a range of activities being held at The Oracle shopping centre throughout 2010. Due to the success of the charity’s Paint the Town Pink event in Reading during October, The Oracle has chosen Breast Cancer Campaign as its national charity for 2010. Campaign will be holding various fundraising weeks at the centre throughout the year to help raise money. The first fundraising week will take place in the run up to Mother’s Day, from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 March, and we need your help to make it a success. Campaign is looking for reliable and enthuasiastic volunteers to sign up and support the various activities taking place. Volunteering at The Oracle will continue until the end of December and includes a variety of roles, ranging from raising awareness of our activities within the local community to organising fundraising events, taking part in bucket collections and encouraging people to contact their local MP to ensure breast cancer and research are priorities for the next Government. Colin Norford, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Senior Community Development Manager, said “We’re thrilled that The Oracle have chosen to support Breast Cancer Campaign in 2010 and we’re really looking forward to making the most of the opportunity - but we need your help. Volunteers are essential to our work as they act as our representatives across the UK, so we’re really keen to get as many people on board as possible to help us continue funding vital breast cancer research.” Steve Belam, General Manager at The Oracle, added: “We are proud to be able to offer The Oracle as a platform to drive fundraising and awareness for Breast Cancer Campaign. We are delighted to confirm them as our national charity for 2010, and look forward to their fundraising events over the coming year." Volunteers can also support the charity throughout the year by taking part in various other activities, such as participating in supermarket collections and attending cheque presentations.
