School fashion and fireworks fundraiser in support of breast cancer
Press Release For immediate release: Wednesday 13 October 2010 Press contact: Marilena Patuto, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3720, Email mpatuto@breastcancercampaign.org Pupils at a school in Hertfordshire have organised a fashion show and fireworks display on Bonfire Night in support of Breast Cancer Campaign. Students from Turnford School in Cheshunt have organised the event in the hope of raising over £10,000 for the charity. The event has been put together entirely by the students who have managed everything from the stage, music and lighting to the model’s hair and makeup on the evening. They have also approached local businesses to sponsor the event and local shops to loan clothes for the models. The evening follows a number of successful fundraising initiatives organised by pupils at the school over the past five years, which has raised more than £17,000 for the charity. This includes hosting a two day bridal fashion show and encouraging staff and fellow students to wear it pink in October and donate £2 to Breast Cancer Campaign. Tamsin Poulter, Deputy Headteacher at Turnford School, said: “The pupils have worked extremely hard to put this evening together and it is set to be an amazing event. We are proud to be raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign once again and know that every penny raised will help to beat this disease.” Colin Norford, Head of Community Fundraising at Breast Cancer Campaign said: “Turnford School has hosted a number of fundraising events for Breast Cancer Campaign and it is only because of the commitment and efforts of people like them that we can continue to fund research into breast cancer. We would like to thank the school for organising another superb event, and urge everyone to come along or make a donation and help the school beat their fundraising target.” The event will take place at the school on Friday 5 November 2010. There will be two showings at 6pm and 9pm. There will also be a “Big Prize Raffle” and a professional fireworks display at 8pm. Tickets for the event are on sale for £10 at the school. Please contact Denyse Starkey on 01992 308 333. Donations can also be made at the school to support Breast Cancer Campaign.
