Press Release For immediate release: 22 September 2009 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Victoria’s Great North Run for research Local runner Victoria Gardner, from Groes in Denbigh, joined the race to beat breast cancer on Sunday by taking part in the Great North Run for Breast Cancer Campaign. The housewife ran for research after her mother and sister both had breast cancer and to support three other friends affected by the disease. On the day she completed the 13.1 mile race in Newcastle in 2 hours and 26 minutes. Victoria said: “I wanted to get fit and run a half marathon before I reached a certain age and I wanted a worthwhile reason and a goal, so raising money for a breast cancer charity seemed the answer. I enjoyed taking part on Sunday and the atmosphere was amazing with so many people running for very special causes close to their hearts. I found it a challenge but one that I was very proud to complete. My husband nearly missed the photo opportunity because he was busy looking the other way at the Red Arrows!” Victoria has so far raised £698 in sponsorship from family and friends and is still keen to raise more, so if you would like to sponsor her and help fund breast cancer research, please visit www.justgiving.com/Vicky-Running and donate what you can. Every day 125 people in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer, so if you would like to help fund breast cancer research and take part in a running event for Campaign, please call the Events Team on 0207 749 4107 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org. As well as receiving a fundraising pack with a professional Ronhill vest, all runners will be part of a motivated team dedicated to helping Campaign in their mission to beat breast cancer.
