Press release For immediate release: 3 March 2010 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Women unite in the fight against breast cancer March is the month of women – so celebrate your womenhood this Spring and help Breast Cancer Campaign beat breast cancer. This Sunday (8 March) is International Women’s Day, intended as a day to celebrate the achievements of women world-wide. But it’s also the perfect time for you to be breast aware. Every year around 12,000 women die from breast cancer in the UK, however research shows that there is a greater chance of survival if breast cancer is detected earlier. So remember to follow our five point code to be more breast aware, not just today but every day: • Know what is normal for you • Look and feel • Know what changes to look for • Report any changes without delay • Attend breast screening if aged 50 or over Then don’t forget that it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 14 March – a perfect time to support the charity by holding a fundraising event to either treat your mum or honour her memory. There are lots of events you could hold, from coffee mornings to black tie balls, and they can be great fun to organise. You can also support the charity by making a quick and easy text donation. Simply text the words ‘FOR MUM’ TO 81400 to make a £1.50 donation* to help Campaign continue funding vital breast cancer research. Anyone can hold a fundraising event for Campaign, no matter how large or small. For more information please contact Angela on 020 7749 3700 or email akelly@breastcancercampaign.org ENDS The text facility ends 15 March. *90p from every text will be donated to the charity.
